Thípi Tectonics: An Analysis on How Culture, Beliefs, and Traditions can Positively Affect Lakȟóta Tribal Housing

The Lakȟóta people were well known for their portable dwelling, the thípi, which is culturally significant, sustainable, and well-designed. Intergenerational trauma and colonization has contributed to the multitude of extreme issues that Native people face within their homes today. By translating early Lakȟóta design values and beliefs into modern design methods, strategies from the past will be able to help alleviate housing issues faced by the Lakȟóta in the present and future generations.
