Palimpsest: USC Center for Social Justice

By Abriannah Aiken, B.Arch '21

The USC Center for Social Justice has the opportunity to respectfully add a new layer and cultural hub to Leimert Park; Palimpsest accomplishes this feat through an emphasis on social and environmental sustainability. Apart from social justice services, this project engages with the community through active public spaces and an amphitheatre for protest and performances. The architecture relays a narrative of environmental sustainability through it’s mass timber construction and titanium dioxide skin coating that purifies air.
